Free Stuff To Your Door

Matter is a box full of FREE things you might like… to keep

Matter is a new way for companies to talk to you by giving you real, physical things you might like to keep, use or give to your friends.

Matter is a box full of nice things delivered to you on a Saturday morning. Inside the box is a selection of items from different companies–which might be useful, entertaining or just fun.

Matter is free–all you have to do is subscribe

Who's behind Matter

Matter is a Royal Mail service, the result of a long-standing collaboration between Royal Mail and Tim Milne’s Artomatic, who, in 2001 – 03, staged a series of exhibitions, OpenUp, which focused on the creative virtues of direct mail. After the final show came an idea to create a separate channel for the very best tangible advertising. This became Matter.

Royal Mail is the UK’s original and leading postal carrier, responsible for the universal mail collection and delivery service in the UK. It delivers 84 million items every working day.

Artomatic evolved from an innovative printer to a seminal retail concept that ushered in a renewed fascination with print and physical art-objects. This thinking and passion was further developed to create Matter Media Ltd, which curates the Matter editions on behalf of Royal Mail.

Matter is now offered as a service (in the UK) from Royal Mail who bring their unique network and considerable resources for Matter to reach its full potential.

Woolworths holds huge stock sale !

The administrator of Woolworths has launched a massive fire sale of the retailer's stock as it continues to talk to potential buyers of the stricken chain

All goods in all of Woolworths 800 stores will be sold at a discount of up to 50pc. Deloitte, the administrator, has hired extra staff and said that it anticipates "increased footfall" in the stores.

Retail observers predicted that the so-called Biggest Ever Sale could lead to "chaos" in some of Woolworths' high street stores.

FREE MONEY FOR CHRISTMAS !

Claim your £520 / £1,040 Child Tax Credit!

If you have a child born between 1986 and 2003, you are entitled to £520 or even £1,040

It is easy to claim but you must do so before the 31st January

The year before Tax Credits were introduced there was a different non-means tested allowance available which was never advertised by the inland revenue.

It is called the Children's Tax Allowance for the tax year 2002/03

If you have not received the allowance already, you can still claim it before the deadline of 31st January 2009.

You will need to phone HMRC on 0845 302 1437 and ask them to check whether you have already received this allowance - you will need your National Insurance Number.

You are eligible to claim an allowance of £520 if;

* You have a child born between 6th April 1986 and 5th April 2003 AND
* The child lived with you for all or part of that year AND
* You worked and paid tax for all or part of that year AND
* You or your partner earned over £6,000 in their 2002/03 Tax Year

You are eligible for an allowance of £1,040 if;

* You can answer yes to the four questions above, and
* One of your children was born between 6th April 2002 and 5th April 2003

NOTES
Making a claim does not affect your current or future entitlement to Working or Child Tax Credit.

Your marital staus is irrelevant.

You cannot claim the allowance twice and if your final tax code on April 2003's P60 ended in an H or T you have already had the allowance.

This is easy to claim, first phone the number above and check whether you have received the allowance (you probably have not).
You then need to write to your local Tax Office (ask HMRC for the address when you phone), with your details to claim the allowance.

NEW!!! NEW!!! NEW!!!

Here is a link to the HMRC Form which you can fill in and send to your local Tax Office. It's a PDF File so you will need Acrobat reader to download and print it.

I am supplying the above for information purposes only and it does not constitute financial or tax advice.

If you need any help with your claim post a message here and I will do my best to answer any queries.

Also, it would be nice to see this wall filled with messages from people who have successfully claimed a bit of extra Christmas money !

What are you waiting for the clock is ticking.

B&Q and British Gas launch first nationwide light bulb amnesty

As the clocks go back and we all start turning our lights on earlier, B&Q has announced the first ever nationwide light bulb amnesty in partnership with British Gas.

From Friday 31 October, anyone who takes a traditional light bulb to any B&Q store in England, Scotland and Wales will receive two energy saving bulbs to replace it, helping customers to reduce both their carbon footprint and electricity bills.

In most homes lighting accounts for around 15% of the electricity bill. By changing just one standard bulb to an energy saving bulb, consumers can save £3 per year and 11kg CO2. By replacing all the remaining standard (GLS) bulbs in your home with energy saving bulbs, they could save around £45 a year from energy bills, and 170kg CO2.

Euan Sutherland, B&Q Chief Executive comments “Standard bulbs last for between 1,000-1,500 hours - about a year. Energy saving bulbs can last up to 15,000 hours - that's over ten years, saving you money as well as reducing the amount of energy you use. As part of our commitment to One Planet Living we are dedicated to helping customers make their homes as energy efficient as possible, so we hope this light bulb amnesty will encourage people to make the small changes to their homes that are good for their pockets and good for the planet. ”

The light bulb amnesty will run in B&Q stores from Friday 31 October until Sunday 2 November. B&Q has 589,700 energy saving light bulbs to exchange for traditional bulbs (offer limited to two free energy saving light bulbs per household). The bulbs that are traded in will be recycled by the store.
